A Hypothetical Conversation

Girl A: HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Girl B: What is so funny?

Girl A(still giggling): You honestly think that people would actually notice if you did a nose job?

Girl B: Yes.

Girl A: Hahahahahahahahaha! Okay. I have to stop laughing (forcing a serious face) No Seriously.. You do?

Girl B: Well.. yeah! Why wouldn’t they? I am telling you, I don’t know whether I should be frank about it, or hide it and people would notice anyways. I wanted to ask you what should I do.

Girl A: Listen. Lucky for you, everybody else is as self-centered as you are. They are so self-centered, they won’t notice how self-centered you are; and they definitely wont notice your nose job. So the world for you revolves around you, and your nose job for that matter. For them , well,it revolves around them. So rest assured, nobody really cares. Nobody cares to the extent that they really never gave a serious thought to whether you need a nose job or not.

Girl B: You have a point. But still people would notice. And people talk and gossip even not to your face, they will talk behind your back.

Girl A:  And your point is?You don’t want them to talk behind your back? First of all, if  they wont talk about your nose job, then they would find anything else to talk about. Let me remind you that they only talk only for their own fun. They would say “I am so smart I noticed without her saying”. Second, there is only one reason I think anybody should put their face under the knife and endure physical pain and anxiety.

Girl B: And what’s that?

Girl A: The mirror.

Girl B: What do you mean the mirror?

Girl A: Since you are already brave enough you want to change some feature in your already-unique face, then you should not do it for people. You should do it for yourself. For your own self-image. If it would make you smile and feel better about yourself by solely looking at the mirror regardless about what others think and say.

Girl B: Yes, but my self-image is of course affected by those around me.

Girl A: Paradox. Your imposed image is the one affected. Your self image is what is making you have this conversation with me right here right now. If your self-image was okay, then you would be sure about what you want. That doesn’t mean that you would refrain from making your nose job, but you would be more confident about your choices.  Let me put it this way. Right now, you didnt do your nose job. Some people think you need one. And some others think that you don’t. When you do your nose job, some will think that you shouldn’t have and others will think that you made a right move. I ask you now, what do you think? And please don’t consider which  bunch of people would you want to please. Think solely about yourself.

Girl B: Well, I think I don’t need to make a nose job, but I want to. Does that make sense?

Girl A: Only if you want it for the right reasons.

Girl B: I want to feel better about how I look. And I don’t think there is anything wrong with that.

Girl A: And you believe a nose job would make you feel better about how you look?

Girl B: Yes. I believe so.

Girl A: That is good enough; But that wasn’t your question. Your concern was people.

Girl B: A big part of my concern that is.

Girl A:  I bet you never read The Little Prince have you?

Girl B: No. Why? What does that have to do with anything?

Girl A: On ne voit bien qu’avec le cœur. L’essentiel est invisible pour les yeux.

Girl B: Excuse me?

Girl A: My last advice is, read the book then do the nose job.

Note for those who didn’t get the point of the post:The nose job is a metaphor. Everybody is concerned with their own nose job.

I agree. I agree. I agree. Everybody is really concerned wit their own nose Job.
bs I feel like I need to hear this conversation, or in short that ending line every day.
I liked very much the line where it says “And please don’t consider which bunch of people would you want to please. Think solely about yourself.” We really tend to think which bunch of ppl we want to plz rather than what we need to do please ourselves.
On a footnote keda: why exactly did u choose the nose job.. I hope u weren’t thinking of me when u wrote that :D
